Birds of Prey Social Smash
With the release of Birds of Prey to streaming (thanks COVID but it had to give the cinemas a miss) I wanted to come to Warner Bros with a proactive idea that not only promotes the film, but helps get out some of that lockdown angst.
With everyone in lockdown and spending more time on their phones than ever, I could see an opportunity to promote the film by using Instagram’s tap function in stories to a new audience. I created a social game that transformed Harley’s famous bat into a force of destruction on your phone. I worked out how on we could use the tap to skip stories functionality to result in a glittery chaos that would direct you to rent or buy the film. Once the storyboard was approved by Warner Bros, I liaised with their team, Roadshow Australia and an animation studio on bringing this idea to life.
The result? Fun. But seriously, Social Smash whacked engagement out of the park, and continues to be one of their most engaged Instagram stories to date within the Australian market.
